Leah Schanke is a children's book author whose multicultural heritage and interest in U.S. history inspire her to write historical fiction and nonfiction books for children with a focus on little-known but significant figures and events. Leah's debut picture book, FREEDOM AT DAWN, illustrated by Oboh Moses, is scheduled to launch Spring 2025 with Albert Whitman & Co. She is a 2023 PB Rising Stars Runner Up, 12x12 2021 Diversity Scholarship winner and a PBParty 2021 Finalist. In addition to being a member of The Authors Guild and Children's Book Insider, she is an associate member of SCBWI, Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
